Oakhill College

Oakhill College is investing in a major infrastructure upgrade for their students. It requires the new grounds to tie in with the recently completed landscape and be a clear connector for students travelling between spaces. It needs to be an extension of the new Commons building and provide robust spaces for outdoor learning and performances.

The northern interface of the project is characterised by a sweeping elliptical seating wall which embraces a retained large tree, echoing the shapes of the existing landscape. This curved seating wall is extended to the west, drawing visitors to the new main entry of the college. Clever realignment of ramps and stairs provide clear and safe circulation while celebrating the initial entry point of the college.

A transparent ceiling shelters the space in the south, a lush and inviting landscape with mature fern plantings along the facades and oversized seats which double as informal stages. Large audiences can be accommodate in a glorious amphitheatre on the eastern side.
