Emu Plains Public School P+C

In aid of a grant application, and with the intent of inspiring the growing parent community at the school, the Emu Plains Public School P+C engaged LSA Design to conceive a plan for a prominent yet under-utilised corner of their grounds.

Given an open brief, LSA Design firstly looked at the enthusiasm of the students and saw their ambitions lacked opportunity to explore. As such the project’s vision became to create The Garden of Leaders and Learners, an inspiring space that offered chances for play and enquiry in equal measure.

With climate change a critical issue, and a key part of the primary school curriculum, the concept took cues from climate and weather. The aesthetic was based on pressure pattern plans while the included elements were both educational and playful in nature.

The ‘low pressure zones’ within the pressure pattern formed smaller garden spaces, each with a particular climatic focus, including: The Energy Zone, The Weather Zone, The Earth Zone, The Water Zone, and an Outdoor Classroom. Surrounding these was a vibrant garden, with native edible and low-water planting, further emphasising the pressure patterns in its layout.
