Burwood childcare centre

Burwood, Australia

City Park Properties

Part of a mixed-use development in Burwood, strategically close to public transport, this child care centre takes guidance from the Early Years Learning Framework – focussed on kids Becoming, Being, and Belonging – to create a variety of spaces for exploring, reading, playing or resting. The emphasis is on the softness and playfulness of the space.

The elliptical sand pit on the ground floor adjacent to a timber deck creates a comfy room, with a timber batten lined ramp spiralling up to the floor above. The elliptical shape is used as a guide for the spatial definition of the raised planters, each filled with hardy but lush vegetation, providing shade and improving the microclimate.

A variety of elements like animal figures, sound tubes and water play aim to stimulate the imagination and create a sense of wonder. A twin cubby house with a slide and a veggie garden invites role play and creates a sense of belonging.

Children will thrive in this environment.
