Delicately balanced between a newly-renovated federation-style home and a contemporary self-contained apartment, this landscape design deals successfully not only with grading and access issues, but more importantly with the fusion of differing styles of architecture.

Along the side of the house the design remains understated, tying seamlessly into the established front garden. A linear lawn stretches into the rear garden and is truncated by the main section of the open space – a dense native garden that forms a focus from all directions. For the main building the garden forms a beautiful, peaceful backdrop of native tall, linear-trunked white gums and bird-attracting native shrubs and grasses. For the apartment it provides a sense of seclusion by ensconcing a private deck.

Carefully considered, the design frames view lines and creates spacial relationships to provide each building with a sense of exclusive ownership of the gorgeous native garden.
