Wuxi Information Technology Park*

Wuxi, China

Beijing Science Park Development Group

Widely known as ‘The Pearl of Tai Lake,’ Wuxi is located within the Yangtze River Delta, and is the transportation hub between Beijing and Hangzhou.

Combining the function of the park with the client’s vision for a North American-style campus radiating out from the central lake, the concept’s big idea is based on ‘computer chips,’ and more importantly future innovations predicted for them.

The chip is the core of all technology, similar to the lake at Wuxi Park. But stepping away from computer chips of today, which are rigid, linear, focused on small tasks and not human orientated, new developments of the ‘chip’ were investigated. New ‘chips’ that are intuitive, emotive, have character and focus on humans.

Taking inspiration from these advances in technology, the landscape plan created is a forward looking and innovative masterplan.

After submitting a return brief for the Wuxi Information Technology Park, including an overall masterplan for the Wuxi Industry Park, the focus turned to a concept design for the core area of the site, the lake precinct.

The design tenets of the masterplan are further developed to create a landscape that is connected, iconic, active, engaging, natural and relaxing.

Hard, constructed water edges are juxtaposed with natural, active landscapes, and social areas with private spaces. The island precinct becomes a  unique experience in the heart of Wuxi Industrial Park.
